Art Techniques and Tips

This month's art technique is about the difference between cold press and hot press paper. They are known for their distinct surfaces and uses. Cold press paper has a textured, medium-to-rough surface, making it ideal for watercolor techniques that emphasize layering, blending, or a more expressive style. It absorbs more water and pigment, making it well-suited for landscapes or textured effects. On the other hand, hot press paper offers a smooth surface, perfect for detailed work like botanical illustrations or fine-line drawings. It absorbs water evenly but less aggressively, which enhances color brightness and definition. Choosing between the two depends on whether you prioritize texture or precision in your artwork.
